Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology

Diseases caused by viruses, parasites and bacteria in the body, some of which may be contagious, are called infections. Thanks to the communication medicine technologies of the Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Department of Maltepe University Faculty of Medicine Hospitals and new antimicrobial drugs, such infectious diseases can be quickly diagnosed and treated.

The Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Department has a wide range of responsibilities ranging from extremely deadly diseases such as tuberculosis, meningitis, AIDS to diseases such as influenza and diarrhea.

One of the biggest roles in the diagnosis and follow-up of infectious diseases is microbiology laboratories. Microorganisms causing infection are detected by serological tests, culture methods and direct examinations.
